Barbara’s “philosophy of practice” – sent to new
and prospective clients
WHY DO YOU NEED A NUTRITIONIST? “Because maybe it’s what you’re eating and not
what’s eating you.”
You want to look and feel your best both physically and
emotionally, and yet you do not. Or, You feel wonderful and you want to prevent
the problems of aging. You may have been everywhere, or seen everyone, and
tried every drug, every therapy, and every quick fix diet store that treats
everyone the same. You even have changed your diet, and bought supplements off
the shelf. Still, you are not feeling better, or you are not as optimally
healthy, fit, or slim, as you want to be. You are reading about nutrition and
are confused by the contradictions. You need someone Licensed and Board
Certified as a Clinical Nutritionist to make sense of it all, and to pull
together all your health information into a plan of individualized foods and
supplements that addresses your personal health goals. That is what Barbara
Zeitlin Kravets, CCN LDN can do. You are not alone in wanting this. Studies
tell us that 30% of Americans use alternative and complementary health care.
Nutrition is almost always involved because it works. You restore better and
faster.

consider many factors in planning your program, such as: should you be on a
carbohydrate or protein dominant diet; is a low-fat diet appropriate; what is

have food allergies or hypersensitivities? She will provide you with the most
current research in support of her recommendations.

Barbara will help you plan menus, recipes, and eating out
choices to fit your busy life style. No matter how great the theory looks on
paper, the question is, “all right then, what will I eat for dinner. A family
member is an insulin dependent diabetic, and she understands about meal
planning and eating out concerns. She knows what is available in the health
food and grocery stores in terms of both foods and supplements. If you need a
shopping trip, that is also available. She makes no commission on any health
food products sold.
If needed, Barbara will suggest new lab work. Her expertise
is in the planning and the functional nutritional interpretation of, routine or
highly complex and far-reaching, laboratory tests. Perhaps it is the dozens of
hours a week she spends on the Internet researching medical and nutrition
journals that allows her to do this so well. It is not necessary, however, for
you to have a scrap of lab work for a beneficial consultation.
Follow Up Sessions:
the purpose is to let you ask questions and for Barbara to motivate, monitor
and refocus the programs where ever it is necessary.
She sells no supplements in her office, but uses her
experience to know, compare and choose the very best supplements and foods for
you from the vast array available. Barbara will tell you what to take, where to
get them, when to take them, and why.

licensed to do Medical Nutrition Therapy, and a former department head of a
hospital.
But I am not a doctor. I do not diagnose, treat, prescribe,
or prevent. I do not work with drugs. I do not put anybody on or off medicine.
Any suggestions that I make to you, your doctor must review to make sure that
he/she approves medically of anything I have suggested nutritionally. I do not
relate to disease. I only relate to health. I practice under the Dietetic and
Nutrition Services Practice Act, Public Law 92-064. This law allows me, amongst
other abilities, to practice medical nutrition therapy and to "deal with
oral dietary needs for individuals and groups. Activities shall relate to the
metabolism of food and the requirement for nutrients, including dietary
supplements for growth, development, maintenance, or attainment of optimal
health." I practice under the Proxmire Amendment, which allows me to
discuss with you foods and food components for special dietary needs. I
may tell you of the physiological properties of these foods and their components
so long as the information is factual and not misleading. By so doing, a food
is not converted into a drug. I confine myself to practicing within the law.
I, Barbara Zeitlin Kravets, CCN LDN, will focus strongly on
what you are just about to tell me, so strongly that I may appear to be
interruptive, for which I apologize up front.
As long as our appointment may seem up front, I know from
experience that I will not be able to answer all of your health goals in one
session and you will leave today with questions not answered. Please do not be
frustrated, because that is why we have follow-up consultations. Eventually I
will tune in on every one of your health goals; although I may lack the skills to
be able to answer them, it will not be from lack of trying. Lastly, the phone
may ring and I may be called away to a telephone call. This, too, is
interruptive, and again I apologize, but it does not come out of your time.
As far as records of my protocols, suggestions, and phone
consults, I have constructed my practice so that you have in your possession
all information at all times: 1) I send you the initial protocol, diet and supplement
suggestions, in writing , and you take your own notes at each follow up
consultation. I answer your emails, by email, so you have those, too. If you
call me between appointments, you take notes on our conversation. Please keep a
copy of this disclaimer and the Dear Client letter. Also, please keep a
copy of lab work you or your doctors send to me.
In this way there are no records that I have that you do not
have already and all the time.
I practice under all the HIPAA guidelines. (Information
available upon request.)
